Key moments in the history of our Company

Some of the roots of the Rotkäppchen-Mumm Company stretch back several hundred years. Our sparkling wine brands were established in 1856 while our spirits date all the way back to 1507. We are proud of our long company history, which continues to be eventful to the present day.

Acquisition of Eggers & Franke

With the acquisition of the Bremen-based Eggers & Franke Group, Rotkäppchen-Mumm assumes the reins of Germany’s leading merchant of high-quality wines and spirits.

Foundation of the Markgräflich Badisches Weinhaus

Joint venture with the traditional company Markgraf von Baden. The foundation of the Markgräflich Badisches Weinhaus.

Expansion of brand portfolio

Ruggeri expands the Rotkäppchen-Mumm brand portfolio with one of the leading Prosecco brands in Italy.

Acquisition of Sprizzerò

Another new category – pleasure in a can. The Sprizzerò de Martin aperitif from South Tyrol is acquired from the owners.

Expansion of brand portfolio

Nordbrand Nordhausen acquires the traditional rum brand Asmussen, the herb liqueur Fläminger Jagd and Boddel and Balle rums.

Launch in a new segment

Rotkäppchen Fruchtsecco is successfully launched in the wine-based mixed drinks segment.

May 2013

Generational change

The planned generational change in the Rotkäppchen-Mumm management team begins. Gunter Heise, who had been managing partner and spokesperson of the Executive Board for 20 years, becomes chairman of the advisory board. Christof Queisser is appointed chairman of the Executive Board.

Acquisition of Eckes Spirituosen & Wein

With the acquisition of Eckes Spirituosen & Wein, ‘the German home of sparkling wine, spirits and wine’ is born. The brands Chantré, Mariacron, Echter Nordhäuser, Eckes Edelkirsch and Nordbrand Nordhausen join the portfolio.

Rotkäppchen Sektkellerei acquires the brands Mumm, Jules Mumm and MM Extra from Seagram, in addition to the sparkling wine cellars in Eltville and Hochheim.

Management buyout through five members of the Rotkäppchen Sektkellerei executive board, Gunter Heise, Dr Lutz Lange, Jutta Polomski, Ulrich Wiegel and Hans-Jürgen Krieger, along with the family of businessman Harald Eckes-Chantré.

Dropping sales

Sales of Rotkäppchen sparkling wine drop to three million bottles annually, as a result of losing many sales channels. 300 of the 360 employees are made redundant.
